Superpop hegemony — Gabibbo, spokesman of Berlusconian television is an essay tackling the permeation between politics and entertainment in Italy during Berlusconi’s era. In particular, it analyses the role of an anthropomorphic red mascot called Gabibbo, created by producer Antonio Ricci, that is presented as the paladin of the outraged people. The thesis addresses the question whether the mascot is a righter of wrongs or the ultimate populist masquerade of Berlusconian television.
